Doug Witcher has been involved in archery for more than 30 years. He began shooting traditional bows as a 7-year old boy but as a teenage bowhunter he got caught up in the technology race with the modern compound bows. The bulky, high-tech weapons never felt right to him and, in 1986, Doug sold his last compound bow and has been shooting and hunting with traditional tackle since then. In 1998, Doug, constructed his first bow, a hickory selfbow, and was immediately hooked on bow-building. He began researching and experimenting with primitive bow designs, trying to coax every ounce of performance he could from the hickory, osage , yew and various other woods. This research and experimentation taught some valuable lessons in bow design and performance that Doug has brought to Turkey Creek Longbows. He learned that the basic design principles that produce a durable high-performance selfbow will yield the same results in a modern laminated longbow. Doug is a craftsman with a high attention to detail and uncompromising standards of quality. Every bow he creates is a beautiful, sturdy work of art suitable for use as a devastating hunting weapon, recreational bow or both.
